Collagen – What is Collagen?

Collagen makes up 70% of the protein in our skin and is able to absorb and store water in the tissues, to regenerate the skin leaving it smooth and firm. Collagen and elastin create the integrity of our skin and are responsible for its ability to defy gravity. While young our collagen still retains all of its moisturising properties and the skin appears smooth and soft with a healthy complexion. As we grow older collagen synthesis slows down and collagen loses its flexibility and capacity for absorption. The skin becomes thinner and the protein fibres decrease in diameter. The external effects of this process are the appearance of wrinkles and drier skin.

Collagen-based cosmetic products blended with vitamins and minerals have long been considered the most effective means of fighting these problems: they slow down the ageing process of the skin and promote tissue renewal thus preventing scar tissue formation. Using highly concentrated collagen appears to be the ideal formula. However, collagen molecules have to be forced apart to allow penetration into the deeper layers of the skin and the methods used so far - Freeze-Drying and Hydrolysis - expose the collagen to extreme temperatures, which results in losing the majority of its moisture-retaining properties.

The Birth of BioCol Marine

Bio-Col Cosmetics International, S.L., headed by Lola Santamaria Alcocer, is a company with headquarters in Barcelona (Spain) that has been dedicated to the research, production and distribution of luxury cosmetic products for over sixteen years.

After years of research and numerous experiments, in collaboration with leading plastic surgeons in South America and major Swiss laboratories, Bio-Col Cosmetics International S.L. has successfully formulated a range of products containing Soluble Marine Collagen harvested from non-protected species of fish of the Teleost family. Using a patented breakthrough technology, the collagen molecules derived from the muscles, ligaments, skin and tendons of fish are “split” at a constant temperature of 20 ° C to 25 ° C. At this temperature, most of the moisture retaining properties are preserved whilst collagen molecules are small enough to penetrate into the dermis to replenish lost collagen, acting like a natural filler. The result of this complex process is BioCol’s Soluble Marine Collagen, the main ingredient of BioCol Marine line of treatments.

BioCol Marine is a highly effective rejuvenating treatment that both moisturises and regenerates. This exclusive formula based on Highly Concentrated Soluble Marine Collagen and active ingredients from the sea helps keep skin well-moisturised and supple, stimulates the skin’s natural regenerating mechanisms, delays skin ageing and strengthens the skin’s barrier function by forming a protective layer over its surface and making it more resistant to free radicals.

The results obtained are truly extraordinary: expression lines and wrinkles are softened; their length and depth are reduced. Skin feels softer, firmer, well-moisturised and acquires a more luminous look.

All BioCol Marine products are dermatologically tested to ensure optimum tolerance for all skin types. The products are not tested on animals.
